What if your Insights Grow Faster Than Your Career

Can you recall a moment of clarity about your career? A moment when something suddenly falls into place. We know what gives us energy. We know what no longer fits. It can feel liberating.

But then something unexpected happens. Our insight moves faster than our career. The direction may be becoming clearer. But the opportunity hasn't appeared yet.

And that can be really frustrating.

We have reflected. We have gained clarity. We may even have taken action. And still, nothing seems to be moving at the pace we hoped.

An internal opportunity goes to someone else.

A promotion doesn't happen.

An application ends in rejection.

A conversation doesn't lead where we expected.

Or we find ourselves waiting for the right moment to make a move.

And slowly, doubt can creep in.

Maybe I'm not ready.

Maybe I should just stay where I am.

Maybe I expected too much.

This is the part of career change I don't think we talk about enough. The part after the insight, but before the change. Because knowing what we want does not mean that our circumstances immediately catch up.

And sometimes, this is where the real work begins.

How do we stay motivated when the next step takes longer than expected?

How do we deal with disappointment without questioning our own value?

How do we remain open when we have heard “no” or simply heard nothing at all?

How do we keep trusting what we have learned about ourselves without becoming impatient with the process?

And how do we keep moving when we don't yet know exactly where we will end up?

This is something I have become increasingly aware of in my coaching conversations. We often spend a lot of time helping people discover what they want next. But there is another part of the journey that deserves just as much attention. What happens when we know but the change hasn't happened yet?

Don't forget that career development is rarely a straight line! It is often a process of exploring, trying, learning and adjusting.

A conversation with someone whose role interests us.

A project that allows us to discover a different side of ourselves.

Putting our hand up for an opportunity we wouldn't normally consider.

Exploring an internal role.

Having a coureagous conversation with our manager.

Applying for something and discovering what the experience teaches us whether we get the role or not.

These things may not immediately change our career. But they can create movement.

And this is where I like to support. In that often uncomfortable period when you know you want change and are trying to find your way towards it.

When the confidence you felt during their moment of clarity starts to shake.

When rejection becomes personal.

When waiting becomes exhausting.

When you are tempted to settle simply because uncertainty feels harder than staying where your are.

My coaching is not about having all the answers. It is about creating a space where we can pause, regain perspective, challenge the stories you are telling yourself and reconnect with what matters. And then find the next step. Not necessarily the perfect step but the next meaningful one.

Because whether we are looking outside our organisation, considering an internal move, aiming for our next level or simply feeling that something needs to change, the transition can be just as important as the destination.

So contact me, if you are looking for guidance:

in reminding yourself that waiting is not necessarily standing still

In separating rejection from self-worth

in creating movement before you have certainty

in looking for possibilities where you already are

in keeping track of what you are learning

in protecting your hope and motivation

Sometimes, we are simply in the space between knowing and becoming. And that space can be difficult. But we don't have to navigate it alone.
